A24’s Opus Unveils First Look with Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich
A24 has released the first look at its upcoming horror film, Opus, starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich. The film, set to hit theaters on March 14, 2025, marks A24’s first horror release of the year and is directed by Mark Anthony Green. The image, shared by USA Today, offers a glimpse into the psychological thriller described as a “tense, psychosocial game of cat and mouse.”
Opus follows a young writer, played by Edebiri, who is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star, portrayed by Malkovich, who mysteriously vanished 30 years prior. Surrounded by the star’s cult of followers and intoxicated journalists, she uncovers his twisted plan. The film has been described as “flashy pop horror” and reportedly includes musical numbers, adding a unique twist to the genre.
Joining Edebiri and Malkovich are Amber Midthunder, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino, and Tatanka Means. The film is produced by Collin Creighton and Brad Weston of Makeready, with additional producers including Poppy Hanks and Jelani Johnson of Macro Film Studios. Grammy-winning artists The-Dream and Nile Rodgers have contributed original songs to the soundtrack.
Mark Anthony Green, known for his work in the fashion industry and his award-winning short film Trapeze, U.S.A., makes his feature directorial debut with Opus. The film is expected to blend horror with psychological intrigue, offering a fresh take on the genre. A24, known for its innovative and critically acclaimed films, is handling global distribution.
Fans of A24’s unique storytelling and horror enthusiasts alike are eagerly anticipating Opus, which promises to deliver a chilling and visually striking experience. The film’s release in early 2025 positions it as a potential standout in the horror genre for the year.
