Surprise, Ariz. — Oregon State University will kick off its 2025 baseball season with a matchup against Xavier University on February 14 at 11 a.m. PT. The game, set against the backdrop of Surprise Stadium, marks the beginning of a challenging season ahead for the Beavers.
This year’s opener is significant as Oregon State, coming off a successful 45-16 campaign, seeks to maintain momentum in a new season. The Beavers have made nine appearances in NCAA Super Regionals, which underscores their competitive edge in college baseball.
Oregon State’s head coach, Mitch Canham, is entering his sixth season and boasts a remarkable .669 winning percentage, which is the highest in the program’s history. “We’re excited to start fresh and compete right out of the gate,” Canham said. “Our players are ready, and we’re looking forward to seeing how we stack up against Xavier.”
The game will be available live on the Beaver Sports Network across Oregon. Fans can also stream the event on Flo Baseball and access live statistics via the Oregon State athletics website. Josh Worden and Rich Burk will provide play-by-play commentary.
Oregon State is embarking on a challenging stretch with 11 consecutive games away from home, the longest such start since 2016. During the 2024 season, they established a program record with 118 home runs, significantly surpassing the previous single-season record of 89. The Beavers seek to replicate this offensive success, especially with returning slugger Gavin Turley, who ranked second on the team with 19 home runs last season.
Xavier, coached by Billy O’Conner, is anticipated to present a formidable challenge. The Musketeers, who were fourth in the Big East last season, return three preseason All-Big East honorees including outfielder Aedan Anderson, who led the team with 35 walks and 18 home runs last year. O’Conner expressed optimism heading into the season opener, stating, “We’ve worked hard in the offseason and are eager to showcase our growth.”
The last encounter between these two programs was in 2022, where Oregon State swept Xavier in a three-game series while outscoring them 27-7. As they meet again, both teams will look to establish dominance on the field.
As the season unfolds, Oregon State aims for its 84th win on opening day, with a 3-2 record on opening days under Canham’s leadership. The Beavers are also expected to face several high-caliber opponents this season, setting the stage for an exciting year of college baseball.
Live updates will continue throughout the game, capturing the excitement of the opening day as both teams aim for a strong start. Fans are encouraged to follow along through Oregon State’s athletics channels for scores and highlights.
