Orioles Sign Former Astros Player Cooper Hummel to Major League Contract

Baltimore, Maryland — The Baltimore Orioles have signed outfielder Cooper Hummel to a one-year major league contract, according to Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun. Hummel, who has experience at multiple positions, is looking to revitalize his career.
The 30-year-old Hummel entered the season with playoff expectations for the Orioles but now finds himself joining a team currently sitting at the bottom of the AL East with an 18-34 record.
Hummel was brought in following the injuries of two corner outfielders, Ramon Laureano and Tyler O'Neill. Roster changes have prompted the Orioles to seek additional depth and versatility.
Before joining Baltimore, Hummel was picked up on a minor league contract in April after he was designated for assignment by the Houston Astros. In ten games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he recorded a batting average of .258 with two RBIs.
During his career, Hummel has faced challenges but has also seen time with several organizations. He made his big league debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2022, where he batted .176 across 201 plate appearances. Following that, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners before experiencing a stint with the Astros.
Now with Baltimore, Hummel faces a crucial opportunity to show his skills and maintain a role in the majors, especially with the team’s ongoing struggles.
