Orlando Magic Face Struggling Hornets in Key Matchup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Orlando Magic (33-38) will take on the Charlotte Hornets (18-53) at Spectrum Center on March 25, 2025, in a critical Eastern Conference matchup.
The Magic are coming off a convincing 120-105 victory against the Washington Wizards, showcasing a strong offensive performance. Orlando shot 47.9% from the field, including 40.5% from beyond the arc, and converted 84.6% of their free-throw attempts. They dominated the boards with 55 rebounds, 13 of which were offensive, and tallied 25 assists while forcing 15 turnovers from Washington.
Paolo Banchero starred for the Magic, scoring 30 points with eight rebounds and five assists, leading the team both offensively and defensively. “We played solid, especially on the boards, which helped us dictate the game,” Banchero said post-game.
Despite their positive momentum, the Magic are ranked last in the league for points per game at 104.8 and struggle defensively, allowing 106.1 points per game, the highest in the NBA. They average 41.6 rebounds and 20.6 personal fouls per game, factors that could come into play against an offense like Charlotte’s.
The Hornets, seeking to turn their season around, are coming off a 122-105 loss to the Miami Heat. Charlotte struggled defensively, allowing Miami to shoot 57.3% from the field. Nick Smith Jr. was a bright spot for Charlotte, scoring 19 points and grabbing three assists but it wasn’t enough to close gaps in defense.
“We need to focus on our defensive strategy going into tomorrow,” Smith Jr. commented after the defeat. “It’s a matter of holding our ground better.”
Charlotte’s performance is concerning as they rank at the bottom of the league in numerous categories, including points scored per game (105.8) and field goal percentage (43.0%). They also average 15.4 turnovers per game, an area they need to improve in against Orlando.
As the teams prepare for their matchup, the Magic will be aiming for an away victory while the Hornets look to leverage their home-court advantage. With both teams at pivotal points in their respective seasons, this game could significantly impact the playoff landscape.
The last meeting between the two teams saw the Magic claim victory, making tonight’s game an intriguing rematch.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET, and with both teams seeking a crucial win, fans can expect a competitive atmosphere at Spectrum Center.
