Orlando Magic Rally Late to Secure Key Victory Over Spurs

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Magic found their will to win in a critical late-season matchup, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 116-105 on Tuesday night at the Amway Center. After struggling in previous games, the Magic rebounded with determination and teamwork to momentarily climb back into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
Head Coach Jamahl Mosley emphasized the need for effort, intensity, and precision, lamenting previously missed opportunities. ‘That was a game that was there for the taking,’ he said. The Magic initially fell behind, trailing by 11 points late in the third quarter, but mustered a strong effort to regain control.
After finishing the third quarter on a 6-0 run, the Magic powered through the fourth quarter with a 37-21 scoring advantage. Center Wendell Carter, who faced criticism for a lackluster performance against the LA Clippers, made a vital rebound amidst three Spurs players and set the stage for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s critical three-pointer, extending Orlando’s lead to 11 points.
‘I think our ability to sustain our effort and step up in big moments was key,’ Mosley said. The Magic demonstrated resilience after a season filled with injuries and inconsistencies, both on offense and defense.
Stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner led the charge with 24 points each, marking their ninth consecutive game of scoring 20 or more points together, setting a franchise record. Banchero, despite struggling to get to the free-throw line, scored 11 of his points in the fourth quarter and contributed 10 rebounds, showcasing his ability to rise under pressure.
Wagner helped ignite a pivotal third-quarter run, scoring 15 points in the second quarter and providing the team with energy and momentum. ‘It has been a season of huge challenges for us,’ Wagner remarked. ‘But I think we have done a good job sticking with it.’
As the game progressed, the supporting cast stepped up, contributing crucial plays to secure the victory. A sequence involving Cole Anthony blocking a layup turned into a dunk by Anthony Black, while Caleb Houstan and Jonathan Isaac also made significant contributions during the late-game surge.
‘It’s a beautiful thing to watch when those two [Banchero and Wagner] can play off of each other,’ Mosley said. ‘Trusting one another and sharing the basketball has been vital.’
The Magic’s ability to snap back after a slow start highlighted their growth and potential. This victory comes as the team aims to solidify their position in the playoff race, bringing hope to fans expecting a return to form.
As the season progresses, the Orlando Magic continue to strive for consistency and improvement. With games winnable and the postseason within reach, the determination displayed against the Spurs could be the turning point they need.
