Orlando Magic’s Da Silva Steps Up in Banchero’s Absence
Orlando, FL – Orlando Magic forward Tristan da Silva has taken on added responsibility during Paolo Banchero‘s absence due to a left groin strain. Missing his fourth consecutive game on Thursday night, Banchero’s injury has given da Silva an opportunity to showcase his skills as a starter.
Da Silva, a second-year pro, became familiar with this role last season when Banchero faced a lengthy recovery from a torn abdominal muscle. With each game, da Silva feels more comfortable. “I just feel more comfortable,” he said after Thursday’s shootaround. “Knowing the game plan, knowing the opponents now since I’ve played against them a couple times already. There’s just more familiarity there.”
In the three games prior to Thursday, da Silva averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals. He emphasized the importance of his role, stating, “Being a starter, that’s already a big deal of responsibility because you set the tone for the rest of the game.”
Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley noted that Banchero has continued non-contact work, but no clear return timeline can be established. Mosley said, “They don’t put timelines on it. As he recovers from each session, we’ll go from there.”
Meanwhile, the Magic have also been proactive in giving back to the community. Da Silva, along with rookie player Richardson and coaching staff, distributed 400 Thanksgiving meals to families in need at the Eatonville Boys & Girls Club on Wednesday night. Richardson expressed his commitment to community service, saying, “Any way I can, at any time I can, I’m willing to do that.”
Looking ahead, the Magic will face the New York Knicks on Saturday, followed by a trip to Boston. Da Silva’s performance remains key as the team navigates through Banchero’s absence.
