South African football giants, Orlando Pirates, are set to wrap up their pre-season tour in Spain with a challenging friendly against Qatari powerhouse, Al-Sadd, at the prestigious Banùs Football Centre.

Both teams, coming off successful 2023/24 seasons, will clash for the second time post their respective domestic triumphs in the pre-season build-up.

Al-Sadd, fresh from clinching the Qatar Stars League and the Emir Cup, displayed their prowess in a convincing 8-0 victory over Gibraltar’s Manchester 62 at the same venue, setting the stage for an exciting encounter against the Buccaneers.

Orlando Pirates, under the guidance of coach Jose Riveiro, are looking to bounce back to winning ways after back-to-back draws against Granada and Plymouth Argyle in their pre-season fixtures. The South African team gained a notable victory over La Liga’s Sevilla and aims to sign off from Marbella on a high note.

In terms of team dynamics, Orlando Pirates might see some adjustments following an injury scare to striker Evidence Makgopa. While the likes of Tshegofatso Mabasa and Zakhele Lepasa are expected to step up, Rafa Mujica, Al-Sadd’s new signing from Arouca, will be keen to make his presence felt after a debut brace.

Gonzalo Plata, the Ecuadorian winger for Al-Sadd, showcased his goal-scoring prowess with a hat-trick in the previous match, while goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham and Brazilian defender Paulo Otàvio will anchor the team’s defense against Orlando Pirates.

The much-anticipated showdown kicks off at 19:30 (SAST) and will be available for live streaming on Orlando Pirates’ YouTube channel, Pirates TV, and SuperSport PSL, ensuring global fans can catch the action as these two formidable sides meet in Spain for an exhilarating encounter.
