LUSAIL, Qatar — Oscar Piastri will start from pole position in Saturday’s sprint race at the Lusail International Circuit, edging out George Russell by just 0.032 seconds. The McLaren driver clocked a time of 1:20.241 to lead the field, with Russell alongside him on the front row.

Lando Norris will begin in third place, while Max Verstappen, the current championship leader, struggled during the final qualifying session, placing sixth on the grid after having a lap time deleted for going off track at Turn Four.

This qualifying session was marked by tense competition, especially as rain earlier in the day created tricky conditions. Piastri managed to navigate the challenging circuit effectively, showcasing his strong form. He said after the session, “It was intense out there, but we made the right calls and it paid off.”

Russell, who had a solid run but fell short for pole, commented, “It’s close racing out there, and every fraction of a second counts. Tomorrow’s race will be exciting.” Verstappen, meanwhile, was clearly frustrated with his car’s performance, expressing concerns about its handling to his engineer over the team radio.

The sprint race is set for Saturday and is critical, as drivers attempt to secure vital points in the championship standings. With just two races left in the season, every position is crucial.

The atmosphere in the paddock is electric, with teams strategizing for the forthcoming race. “We have to stay sharp and focused,” Norris advised. “Anything can happen in a sprint.”

As the teams prepare for the race, all eyes will be on the front row as they head into the first corner, hoping to capitalize on their starting positions and gain an advantage in the championship battles ahead.
