Ottawa Senators Acquire Jan Jenik in Exchange for Egor Sokolov

The Ottawa Senators have made a significant move by acquiring forward Jan Jenik from the Utah Hockey Club in exchange for Egor Sokolov, marking their third trade in as many days.

Jan Jenik, a 23-year-old Czechia native, was drafted 65th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 22 NHL games, recording six points with four goals and two assists, all with the Coyotes.

During the 2023-24 season, Jenik predominantly played for the Tuscon Roadrunners, the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate, where he notched 36 points in 55 games with 16 goals and 20 assists. He has an AHL career total of 120 points in 165 games.

Jenik also represented Team Czech Republic in the 2019 and 2020 World Junior Championships, showcasing his talent on the international stage with two goals and three assists across six combined games.

Heading the opposite way in the trade is 24-year-old Egor Sokolov, who was drafted 61st overall by the Senators in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Sokolov played 13 NHL games, tallying one goal and one assist, and spent a significant portion of his career with Ottawa’s AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators.

In his AHL tenure, Sokolov amassed 180 points from 76 goals and 104 assists in 240 games. Senators’ President of Hockey Operations and General Manager expressed optimism about Jan Jenik’s addition, highlighting his versatility and offensive skills.
