Alex Ovechkin Hitting During Nhl Playoffs

ARLINGTON, Va. – At 39 years old, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin continues to impress with his performance in the NHL playoffs. During the Eastern Conference First Round against the Montreal Canadiens, Ovechkin showcased his skills by delivering multiple hits and scoring crucial goals.

“Crazy is one way to put it,” Capitals forward Tom Wilson said on Monday, reflecting on Ovechkin’s ability to perform as if he were in his mid-20s. Ovechkin not only led the Capitals with four goals against Montreal, but he also tied Wilson for second on the team with 19 hits in five games.

Ovechkin’s hitting can significantly impact the game’s momentum. “He has the ability to change the game with a hit, with a goal, with a big play,” Wilson noted, praising Ovechkin’s leadership qualities. “We know he’s our leader and he’s willing to do whatever it takes.”

On April 6, Ovechkin became the all-time leading scorer in NHL history when he netted his 895th goal against the New York Islanders. He has since added to his tally, finishing the regular season with 44 goals, tying for third in the league. Ovechkin also leads all players in postseason hits, with 660 throughout his career.

As the playoffs continue, Ovechkin has adjusted his physical play. “In the playoffs, you have to make a hit,” he said, illustrating the shift in intensity during the postseason. He delivered several powerful checks in the opening game against Montreal, reinforcing his aggressive style of play.

Ovechkin’s presence on the ice forces opposing players to act quickly, often leading to turnovers. “When they have the puck, they’ve got to be aware of where he’s at at all times,” another center remarked, emphasizing Ovechkin’s strategic impact. His ability to hit not only affects individual plays but can also uplift the team’s energy and the crowd’s excitement.

Looking ahead, the Capitals will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Second Round starting Tuesday night at Capital One Arena. Ovechkin’s recent performances, including his physicality and goal-scoring, have fueled optimism for the team’s playoff journey.

“This is the most fun time of the year,” Ovechkin said, expressing his eagerness for the challenges ahead. “You work through all the summer, the whole year, 82 games, and this is it. This is the final step and it’s a hard one.”
