Indiana Pacers Nba Finals Game 3

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Indiana Pacers reclaimed the lead in the NBA Finals on Wednesday night, defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 116-107 in Game 3. The Pacers’ bench was a significant factor, scoring 49 points compared to the Thunder’s 18.

Bennedict Mathurin led the way, scoring a game-high 27 points off the bench, the highest for a reserve in an NBA Finals game since 2011. He also contributed five steals, showcasing his defensive skills. Tyrese Haliburton had a nearly triple-double with 22 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds, while Pascal Siakam added 21 points.

“This is the kind of team that we are,” said Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle. “We need everybody to be ready. It’s about teamwork.” The victory gives Indiana a 2-1 series advantage, a crucial position as teams that win Game 3 in a tied finals series win 80.5% of the time.

Mathurin had a standout performance, becoming the sixth player since the 1976-77 merger to score 25 or more points in the Finals at age 22 or younger. “He did a great job of coming off handoffs,” Haliburton commented. “This is a defense that will give that up.”

T.J. McConnell also played a vital role, becoming the first reserve in finals history to record at least five assists and five steals in a game. “Just getting a win in the playoffs is really hard,” McConnell said. “We have to correct some stuff and make adjustments for the next game.”

Game 4 of the Finals is set to take place in Indianapolis on Friday night. The Pacers have yet to lose back-to-back games this postseason and are looking to extend their winning streak.

As Mathurin reflected on his journey back from a shoulder injury that sidelined him last season, he mentioned the importance of preparation. “Just staying ready. Whenever my number is called, I try to help my team win,” he said. Carlisle praised Mathurin for his work ethic and determination.

The Pacers are now in a strong position heading into Game 4, with Mathurin and McConnell both contributing significantly to their success.
