Green Bay Packers Draft Barryn Sorrell

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers added to their defensive lineup Saturday by selecting Texas defensive lineman Barryn Sorrell with the No. 124 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Sorrell, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 256 pounds, played in 49 games over four seasons at Texas, starting 40 of them in his last three years. He recorded 15.5 sacks and 29 tackles for loss, with career-highs of six sacks and 11 tackles for loss in his final season.

The New Orleans native showcased impressive athleticism, running a 4.68-second 40-yard dash and achieving a 34-inch vertical jump at the NFL Combine. He earned honorable mention honors in the Big 12 Conference for both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Sorrell comes to Green Bay alongside his college teammate, first-round pick Matthew Golden, who was selected as a wide receiver earlier in the draft.

During the pre-draft evaluation, Sorrell received mixed reviews from scouts. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein noted, “Sorrell’s measurables and speed won’t be eye-catching, but he’s very consistent and plays with good technique.” Zierlein projected Sorrell as a potential average starter in the league.

“As a competitive player, I want to be the best,” Sorrell said during the Senior Bowl. “I can do things in the run game and I can do things in the pass game.”

He also displayed consistent performance in tests, ranking among the top athletes for his position at the NFL Combine. Sorrell will aim to improve his pass rush skills while contributing as a run stuffer in his rookie season.

As part of the Packers’ depth chart, Sorrell will join established players like Rashan Gary and Lukas Van Ness on the defensive front.
