The San Diego Padres are reportedly considering trading three-time batting champion Luis Arráez to the Seattle Mariners as part of their efforts to reduce payroll. According to Bleacher Report‘s Zachary Rymer, the Padres are open to moving Arráez, who is projected to earn $14.6 million in 2025, in exchange for designated hitter Mitch Garver and infield prospect Michael Arroyo.

Arráez, who won his third consecutive batting title in 2024 with a .314 average, has been a consistent offensive force despite battling a torn ligament in his left thumb for the final three months of the season. However, his .346 on-base percentage and 3.6% walk rate were career lows, raising questions about his value at his projected salary. Rymer noted,
