2025 Wnba Draft Paige Bueckers

NEW YORK, April 14, 2025 — The anticipation for the 2025 WNBA Draft is building, with UConn star Paige Bueckers expected to be selected first overall by the Dallas Wings during the event set for 7:30 p.m. ET at The Shed at Hudson Yards. Bueckers, fresh off leading her team to a national championship, finished her senior season averaging 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, solidifying her status as a top prospect.

The draft marks a pivotal moment for the Wings, who hold the No. 1 pick for the first time in franchise history after winning the draft lottery. This year’s draft will witness a total of 12 first-round selections, though the Las Vegas Aces were stripped of their first-round pick due to league violations.

Draft analysts expect Bueckers to bring a franchise-altering talent to the Wings, who are looking to rebuild under new management. “Paige has the ability to change the dynamics on the court for any team,” said analyst Michael Voepel. “Her skill set and experience make her an asset as she transitions into the WNBA.

Following Bueckers, the draft order appears set with Dominique Malonga from France likely filling the second slot for the Seattle Storm, thanks to her impressive performance in European leagues. At just 19 years of age, Malonga has demonstrated remarkable skill, leading her team while averaging a double-double this season.

The Washington Mystics, holding two lottery picks, are projected to select Sonia Citron from Notre Dame and Kiki Iriafen from USC. Citron, who averaged 14.1 points and received All-ACC honors, is viewed as a versatile player capable of making an immediate impact in the league. “The Mystics need depth, and Citron provides both scoring and defense,” commented Kendra Andrews.

As the league expands to 13 teams, the Golden State Valkyries will also look to make their mark with their first draft selection. This year’s draft includes a broad range of talent from various collegiate programs, including notable players such as Georgia Amoore (Kentucky), Aneesah Morrow (LSU), and Hailey Van Lith (TCU).

With months of anticipation coming to a head, the 2025 WNBA Draft promises to be a night of excitement and potential change for teams looking to improve their rosters and compete at a higher level in the upcoming season.

The event will be broadcast live on ESPN, and pre-draft coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET, featuring expert insights and player interviews.
