Panama’s Córdoba Eyes Revenge Against Mexico in Nations League Final

INGLEWOOD, California — José “Coto” Córdoba is focused on redemption as the Panama national soccer team prepares to face Mexico in the final of the CONCACAF Nations League. The match is set to take place tomorrow at SoFi Stadium, following their recent history against the Mexicans.
Córdoba expressed his confidence during a training session, stating, “Tomorrow is going to be a wonderful game for us thinking about revenge. We are all focused on that match.” The sentiment reflects a collective determination from the team to seize this opportunity.
The importance of each player’s contribution cannot be overstated, as noted by Córdoba: “Every young athlete comes to the national team ready to be part of something bigger. We all are important; the key is to live each moment to the fullest.” This philosophy is shared by his teammates, Edgardo Fariña and Carlos Harvey, who further emphasize the necessity of unity.
“We dream of the cup, but first, we must win it. We need to focus on that and embrace the beautiful journey we are on,” added Córdoba, who aims to lead his team to victory against their long-standing rivals.
Historically, Panama has struggled against Mexico, with the most recent final ending in a 1-0 defeat in July during the Gold Cup. The match included a late goal from Santi Giménez. In total, Panama has faced Mexico six times in competitive matches, recording one draw and five losses.
Despite these challenges, Panama’s roster includes 12 players who participated in the previous Gold Cup, showcasing their experience and resolve as they face Mexico once again.
The coaching staff, led by Thomas Christiansen, has worked relentlessly to prepare the team for this pivotal match. Christensen remarked, “We are developing as a squad. This game is an opportunity to measure ourselves against the best.”
As the teams gear up to clash once again, fans of the “Marea Roja” (Red Tide) remain hopeful that this time, the result will favor Panama, turning past frustrations into a spectacular victory.
