Pantone Reveals 2026 Color of the Year: Cloud Dancer White
CARLSTADT, N.J. — Pantone has announced its 2026 Color of the Year, a soft white named Cloud Dancer, chosen to reflect a collective desire for clarity and calm amid a chaotic world.
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, describes Cloud Dancer as a response to societal exhaustion, stating, “We’re looking for respite, looking for relief, emotional disconnection from overstimulation.” The pandemic has intensified many people’s craving for simplicity and introspection, making the selection timely.
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, calls Cloud Dancer “a breath of fresh air” and highlights its calming influence in modern society. “It symbolizes the value of measured consideration and quiet reflection,” she adds.
Pantone’s process for selecting the Color of the Year involves a global team of “color anthropologists” who analyze trends across various fields, including fashion and politics. Pressman explains, “This is a global team looking at everything that’s happening in the world.”
Cloud Dancer offers flexibility in design, creating spaces that blend function with serenity. Eiseman emphasizes how it fits with minimalist aesthetics while promoting relaxation through texture and rounded furniture designs. In fashion, the color lends itself to “puffy silhouettes” and flowing materials.
Pressman acknowledges that not everyone may embrace the new color immediately, recalling doubts about past selections that eventually became popular, including 2012’s Tangerine Tango. Nevertheless, she believes Cloud Dancer will resonate over time.
The Pantone announcement includes a new initiative showcasing limited-edition works by artists who interpret Cloud Dancer through their creative lenses. The first collaboration features illustrator Emiliano Ponzi, who has created a tote bag representing the color.
As the world attempts to regain balance, Cloud Dancer serves as a reminder of the importance of connection and intentional living. “It enhances our focus and provides release from the distraction of external influences,” Eiseman remarks.
