Para Canoe Athlete Brianna Hennessy to Represent Canada at Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

An Ottawa athlete, Brianna Hennessy, is gearing up to showcase her talent on the international stage once again as she prepares to represent Canada at the upcoming Paralympic Games in Paris for Para canoe and Para kayak events.

Hennessy expressed her excitement at the opportunity, highlighting the extra challenges that come with Para sport due to the health issues that athletes often face. She mentioned that managing chronic pain is a constant battle for her, emphasizing the commitment required to excel in her sport.

Focusing on what she can control during training, Brianna Hennessy is determined to make her mark at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. She mentioned chasing a 12-time world champion this summer, setting her sights high for the upcoming competition.

Hennessy shared that she and her team had previous success in international competitions like Tokyo, finishing fifth and eighth, and accumulating an impressive ten world stage medals thus far. She exuded confidence by signaling their intent to reach the podium once again.

Renowned coach and executive director of the Ottawa River Canoe Club, Joel Hazzan, commended Hennessy’s unwavering spirit and positive attitude. He praised her resilience, noting that she always shows up to practice with a smile, regardless of the pain she may be enduring.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are set to feature over 4,400 athletes from across the globe competing in 22 sports. Hennessy’s journey to represent Canada at this prestigious event is a testament to her dedication and perseverance in the world of Para canoe and Paralympic sports.
