Paris Saint-Germain Coach Spies on FC Barcelona Youngsters During Champions League Win
A Paris Saint-Germain coach was reported to have observed two promising FC Barcelona youngsters during the Catalans’ Champions League victory over Napoli on Tuesday, according to sources.
Barca secured their spot in the quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over Napoli, marking their first appearance in the last eight in four years. The match, held at Montjuic, witnessed a thrilling performance by the home team, creating a memorable European night at their temporary stadium while the Camp Nou undergoes renovations.
Reports suggest that at least one accredited PSG coach attended the match, following their own successful progression past Barca’s domestic rivals Real Sociedad in the previous round. PSG and Barcelona could potentially face off in the upcoming round, reminiscent of their clash in 2021 which saw PSG eliminate Barca from the competition.
In 2021, PSG’s victory over Barca marked Lionel Messi‘s final appearance in the competition for his long-time club before his departure to join the Ligue 1 giants on a free transfer. The ongoing rumors surrounding Messi’s future at Barca have added to the tension between the two clubs.
During the recent match, the PSG coach reportedly focused on observing not only Lamine, but also his La Masia teammate Pau Cubarsi. Cubarsi, a 17-year-old, put up an impressive performance in the game, earning himself the MVP award.
With a €10 million release clause attached to Cubarsi, Barcelona is urged to quickly negotiate new terms to secure the talented young defender and prevent any potential attempts to lure him away from the club.
