On July 26, Paris is set to host an extraordinary Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympics, promising a vibrant display unlike anything seen before. For the first time in Olympic history, athletes will parade along the iconic Seine River, creating a spectacular scene that will delight both attendees and viewers around the world.

The ceremony kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time in Paris, which is 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time in the United States. With over 10,000 athletes representing 206 countries, this event is expected to be a historic moment, pulling in an estimated 1.5 billion viewers globally.

Instead of the traditional stadium setting, the Opening Ceremony will see athletes traveling in 94 boats, each representing a national delegation. They will travel nearly four miles along the Seine, passing famous landmarks such as the Louvre and Notre-Dame Cathedral, before concluding at the Trocadéro with a stunning view of the Eiffel Tower.

The excitement continues with plans for key performers, including rumors that Celine Dion may sing Édith Piaf’s “L’Hymne à l’amour.” It would mark Dion’s first live performance since 2022, heightening the anticipation around the ceremony.

Not to be overlooked, the roles of American sports icons will make headlines too. NBA legend LeBron James and U.S. Open champion Coco Gauff will proudly carry the Team USA flag during the procession, with Gauff making her Olympic debut at just 20 years old.

All eyes will be on the river as the ceremony features 40 cameras from NBC and live coverage that begins at noon Eastern Time. The network will also provide a prime-time encore later in the evening for U.S. audiences.

With a crowd of approximately 320,000 expected along the riverbanks, including free entry for around 220,000 invited spectators, this unique approach aims to make the Olympics more accessible than ever. Event officials are hopeful, even as they navigate potential challenges ahead of this grand celebration.

The grand finale of the day will be the lighting of the Olympic torch, following the traditional protocols that have characterized the Games for over a century. French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to join in the festivities, adding to the celebratory spirit of this momentous occasion.
