Patrick Kane Leads Red Wings’ Seven-Game Win Streak, Named NHL Star
DETROIT, Mich. — Patrick Kane, the Detroit Red Wings‘ veteran forward, has been named the NHL‘s third star of the week after a standout performance that included six points in three games. Kane’s resurgence comes amid the team’s longest winning streak in over a decade, with seven consecutive victories.
Kane, 36, credited head coach Todd McLellan‘s aggressive system for his recent success. “Just the part of our game that’s kind of always on the hunt, always playing more towards the other team’s net instead of sitting back a little bit has been a welcome change for my game,” Kane said. He also highlighted the chemistry with linemates Alex DeBrincat and Andrew Copp, who have been instrumental in the team’s recent surge.
The Red Wings (20-18-4) are riding their longest winning streak since January 2012. Kane has been a key contributor, with a seven-game point streak that includes five goals and eight assists. His linemate DeBrincat has also been on fire, tallying six goals and five assists during the same stretch.
Kane’s recent performances have been clutch, including his 13th career overtime goal in a 3-2 victory over Ottawa and a three-assist game in a 5-3 win against Chicago. On Sunday, he added a goal and an assist in a 6-2 victory over Seattle, marking his ninth multi-point game this season.
McLellan praised Kane’s leadership and skill. “I’m honored to be his coach,” McLellan said. “His poise with the puck is uncanny, how he can slow things down, speed it up. He quietly leads, goes about his business, and everybody kind of follows.”
Kane’s resurgence comes after a career-high nine-game point drought earlier in the season, during which he missed five games due to injury. Now, with 10 goals and 27 points in 37 games, he is proving his value as a veteran presence on the ice.
The Red Wings will look to extend their winning streak Tuesday at home against the San Jose Sharks. Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was named the NHL’s first star of the week, while Carolina center Jordan Staal earned second star honors.
