Patrick Peterson Nfl Draft Announcement

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Former All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson will announce the Arizona Cardinals‘ second-round pick during the 2025 NFL Draft. The event is set for April 28, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada, where NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will handle first-round selections.

Peterson, who was the Cardinals’ fifth overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, had an impressive college career at LSU. He won the Chuck Bednarik Award, recognizing him as the best defensive player in college football. Known for his explosiveness, he excelled in both defense and special teams.

In his rookie season, Peterson made a significant impact by tying the NFL record for most punt return touchdowns in a season, all from at least 80 yards. He quickly became a Pro Bowl player and maintained that status for eight consecutive years, receiving First-Team All-Pro honors multiple times.

However, setbacks occurred in 2018 when Peterson requested a trade which the team denied. His following season was marred by a six-game suspension due to a violation of the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Peterson later joined the Minnesota Vikings and then finished his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played a mentoring role for younger cornerbacks. Last month, he reconciled with the Cardinals and officially announced his retirement.

Peterson retires having recorded 652 total tackles, 32 interceptions, and 12 fumble recoveries. As he returns to the NFL spotlight, he could announce the selection of another standout cornerback, potentially addressing the Cardinals’ needs in a defense that struggled last season.
