Ex-Patriots Coach Patricia Throws Shade at O’Brien
Boston – Former New England Patriots coach Matt Patricia made some interesting comments about his time calling plays for the Patriots offense back in 2022 during a recent appearance with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden.

During the conversation, Patricia was asked about his experience coaching offense and why he took on that role that year. Patricia danced around the question and ultimately threw subtle shade at his successor, Bill O'Brien, by saying, “That was interesting, right? That was definitely interesting. But I do think, though – I’m just going to say this. I don’t think it was better the next year, right? So, maybe we can let me off the hook here a little bit?”

This suggests Patricia believes that the Patriots’ offense did not improve under O’Brien’s leadership and implies that he thinks the issues with the offense stemmed from his own initial attempts to coach it, rather than his successor.

It’s no secret that the Patriots struggled mightily on offense during the 2022 season. Patricia’s foray into offensive play calling is widely considered one of the contributing factors to that downfall.

Patricia’s comments are sure to raise eyebrows and prompt further discussion about the New England Patriots offense, and whether O’Brien was able to turn things around effectively.
