Nfl Draft Edge Defenders Prospects 2025

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, the New England Patriots are focusing on key positions, including edge defenders. With their first pick at fourth overall, the team is evaluating prospects who might fit their defensive scheme under head coach Mike Vrabel.

One standout in this year’s class is Abdul Carter from Penn State. Measuring 6-foot-2 and weighing 252 pounds, Carter is noted for his elite speed and explosiveness off the line. He is highly regarded by scouts, with projections suggesting he could be among the top picks and bring immediate impact as a pass rusher.

Nationally recognized for his talent, Carter recorded 12 sacks in his final season. “He plays with a relentless motor,” said a scout familiar with his game. “He can change the momentum on the field.” Despite concerns about his inexperience at the edge position, many believe he has all the tools to excel in the NFL.

Another top contender is Georgia‘s Jalon Walker, a versatile linebacker who can also fill an edge role. At 6-foot-1 and 243 pounds, Walker is renowned for his high football IQ and leadership skills. “His understanding of the game is impressive, making him a natural fit for the Patriots,” commented an NFL evaluator. His 6.5 sacks last season solidify his status as a valuable prospect.

Boston College‘s Shabazz Ezeiruaku is also drawing attention, as he possesses attributes similar to those of Harold Landry, a former Vrabel draft pick. Ezeiruaku’s proven track record and strong pass-rush skills make him a compelling option for the Patriots.

With multiple needs to address, including offensive tackle and wide receiver, the Patriots hold the cards to make strategic moves during the draft. “They have nine total picks, and the depth in this year’s edge defender class is remarkable,” noted a draft analyst.

In addition to Carter and Walker, prospects like Mykel Williams from Georgia and Nick Scourton from Texas A&M might also be on the Patriots’ radar. Both showcase impressive skill sets and could fit Vrabel’s vision of a disruptive defense.

As draft day approaches, heads will be turning to see which edge defenders the Patriots prioritize as they look to add dynamic playmakers to their roster.
