Patriots Eyeing Blockbuster Trade for Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson Before Deadline
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots are considering a major trade before Tuesday’s deadline, potentially targeting Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. This comes after reports emerged that the Bengals are open to trade discussions following a disappointing loss on Sunday, which dropped their record to 3-5.
Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer noted on “Fox NFL Sunday” that the Bengals’ initial reluctance to trade Hendrickson is weakening. “It seemed like a hard no a week or so ago, and now it’s not,” Glazer stated.
Despite Cincinnati’s claim of not shopping Hendrickson, insiders believe the team could pivot if they falter against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Should the Bengals choose to listen to offers, it would be logical for the Patriots to make a call, as multiple reports suggest Hendrickson is attractive for teams aiming to bolster their defenses.
Hendrickson, who finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting last season, has four sacks and a forced fumble this year, contributing significantly to the Bengals’ defense. However, Cincinnati has struggled with the league’s 25th-ranked defense, putting Hendrickson’s future in doubt as the team faces challenges due to injuries, including to star quarterback Joe Burrow.
The Patriots are 2-6 this season and looking to improve. They already made two trades this week, sending players to the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers. Adding a player of Hendrickson’s caliber could enhance their chances for a playoff push, particularly as they prepare to face the Bengals in Week 12.
As the trade deadline approaches on November 4, the Patriots remain active in their pursuit of enhancing their roster.
