Iowa State Wide Receiver Jayden Higgins

Foxborough, MA — The New England Patriots are reportedly considering potential trades for wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, which could open the door for them to target Iowa State‘s Jayden Higgins in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

According to Fox Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Patriots are “open to trading players from the previous coaching staff.” Boutte, a former LSU standout, had an underwhelming season last year, recording 43 catches for 589 yards and three touchdowns. As he approaches his 23rd birthday next month, his future in New England remains uncertain.

With four picks in the top 80 of the draft, the Patriots have the opportunity to reshape their roster under new head coach Mike Vrabel. Higgins, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 214 pounds, posted impressive stats last season with 1,183 yards and nine touchdowns on 87 receptions. His height and speed (a 4.47-second 40-yard dash) make him an attractive option for New England.

Sources indicate that Higgins could complement Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs if drafted, fulfilling a much-needed role as a big-bodied target for the Patriots.

The possibilities extend beyond Boutte and Higgins. The Patriots might also look to move other players, including wideouts Ja'Lynn Polk and Kendrick Bourne, both of whom faced challenges during their previous seasons. Bourne had 28 receptions for 305 yards and one touchdown last year, failing to meet expectations after signing a $33 million contract.

As the team prepares for the draft, Vrabel’s influence is expected to steer significant roster changes, giving the Patriots a chance to revamp their identity. The upcoming draft will be a crucial moment for the franchise.

Vrabel’s reshaping of the roster may leave players from the previous regime, including running back Antonio Gibson and tight end Hunter Henry, on the trading block.
