Austin Hooper Nfl Tight End Signing

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots have re-signed tight end Austin Hooper to a one-year contract worth $5 million, with the potential to reach $7 million, multiple sources confirmed on March 9, 2025. This deal comes just ahead of NFL free agency, as the Patriots continue to bolster their roster.

Hooper, 30, had a notable season in 2024, contributing as a reliable pass-catcher and run-blocker. He played all 17 games, recording 45 receptions for 476 yards and three touchdowns. His impressive catch rate stood at 76.3 percent, positioning him as a favorite target for quarterback Drake Maye.

This marks the second consecutive year that the Patriots have secured Hooper on a one-year deal, as he initially joined the team through a similar contract last offseason. He previously played for the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and Las Vegas Raiders over his nine-season career. Hooper’s notable achievements include back-to-back Pro Bowl selections in 2018 and 2019 while with the Falcons.

The re-signing of Hooper ensures that the Patriots will maintain a strong tight end duo alongside Hunter Henry, who is also under contract as the team’s No. 1 tight end. The Patriots aim to create a supportive environment for Maye as he enters his sophomore season.

“I’m excited to continue working with Austin,” said Maye. “His experience and skill set make him a valuable asset for our offense.”

Moreover, the Patriots have recently made headlines by acquiring edge rusher Harold Landry on a three-year deal. This addition, along with Hooper’s return, highlights the team’s proactive approach to the offseason and their commitment to strengthening key positions.

The Patriots possess significant salary cap space, allowing them to explore further additions to support Maye’s development in the upcoming season. They also hold the No. 4 overall pick in the forthcoming NFL Draft, providing additional opportunities to enhance their roster.

As the Patriots prepare for free agency and the draft, the retention of Hooper solidifies their tight end position, which remains a strategic focus. The team’s top internal free agents yet to be signed include defensive back Jonathan Jones and defensive linemen Deatrich Wise, among others.
