PHILADELPHIA, PennsylvaniaPaul George, a forward for the Philadelphia 76ers, discussed a moment of criticism he experienced last season during the EaglesSuper Bowl parade. Stuck in traffic, George recalled a fan shouting at him, ‘We coulda kept Tobias if you gon’ do this s—.’ The comment referred to Tobias Harris, a former teammate and fan favorite.

George shared this story on the latest episode of his podcast, ‘Podcast P,’ alongside Hall of Fame inductee Carmelo Anthony. He recognized the impact such remarks can have. ‘It was funny, but it was some s— you take to the heart,’ he said.

The 76ers’ struggles during the season contributed to the tension. They won only four of their next 28 games after the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory in February. At that time, the team’s record was 20-34, and they finished the season with a disappointing 24-58 record. Harris, who spent six seasons with the 76ers before leaving last summer, saw varied success during his time with the team, yet many fans felt his performance was underwhelming for a max contract.

George, who signed a four-year, $212 million deal with the 76ers, averaged just 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists across 41 games, which did not meet expectations. Meanwhile, Harris had a productive season with the Detroit Pistons, contributing to their playoff return after a four-year absence.

As George prepares for his second season with the 76ers, he aims to use the criticism as motivation to improve his performance and help guide the team back into contention for a championship.
