Paysandu and Tuna Luso Clash in Supercopa Grão-Pará Final
BELÉM, Brazil — Paysandu and Tuna Luso will face off in the Supercopa Grão-Pará final this Sunday, January 12, at 5 p.m. local time. The match, held at the Estádio Olímpico Jornalista Edgar Proença, known as Mangueirão, coincides with Belém‘s 409th anniversary celebrations. The game marks the opening of the 2025 football season in Pará state.
The Supercopa Grão-Pará pits the winners of the 2024 Campeonato Paraense, Paysandu, against the champions of the Copa Grão-Pará, Tuna Luso. This is the first time both teams are competing in the final of this tournament. The match will be broadcast live by TV Meio, with additional coverage available on their social media channels.
Paysandu, known as ‘Papão,’ has retained much of its squad from the 2024 Brasileirão Série B and bolstered its lineup with new signings, including striker Rossi and three international players. Meanwhile, Tuna Luso, nicknamed ‘Águia Guerreira,’ features experienced players like defenders Marlon and Dedé, as well as forward Jayme. The team is led by coach Ignácio Neto, who previously guided Tuna Luso to victory in the Supercopa Pará Sub-20.
Both teams face challenges heading into the final. Paysandu will be without key players, including goalkeeper Matheus Nogueira and striker Rossi, due to registration and fitness issues. Tuna Luso, on the other hand, is missing left-back Wesley, who is yet to be registered, with Guilherme likely to step in.
The Mangueirão stadium, a historic venue in Belém, is expected to draw a large crowd for this highly anticipated match. Fans can also follow the game’s key moments in real-time on ge.globo.com.
