Penguins Place Struggling Goalie Jarry on Waivers Amid Slump
PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Wednesday that they will place goaltender Tristan Jarry on waivers at 2:00 p.m. ET. The 29-year-old has struggled this season, posting an 8-7-4 record with a .886 save percentage and a 3.32 goals-against average in 21 games.
Jarry, in the second year of a five-year, $28.66 million contract with a $5.38 million cap hit, has lost his last five starts. His most recent performance came in a 5-2 loss Sunday, where he stopped just 14 of 17 shots.
Last season, Jarry led the NHL with six shutouts, finishing with a .903 save percentage and a 2.91 goals-against average. Over his nine-year NHL career, all with the Penguins, he has recorded 144 regular-season wins, a .910 save percentage, and a 2.74 goals-against average.
The Penguins, currently sixth in the Metropolitan Division with an 18-20-8 record and 44 points, have lost seven of their last eight games. The team’s decision to waive Jarry comes amid a broader slump as they struggle to stay competitive in the playoff race.
