Penn State Bolsters Receivers with Trebor Pena Transfer

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State has made a significant addition to its football roster, securing former Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena. The announcement came just before Saturday’s Blue-White Game, signaling the Nittany Lions’ efforts to strengthen their receiving corps via the transfer portal.

Pena, a New Jersey native, was a standout performer at Syracuse last season, recording 84 receptions for 941 yards and nine touchdowns. His impressive season earned him second-team All-ACC honors and positioned him as the 27th best transfer wide receiver in the nation, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot, 184-pound player brings experience and skill with 475 yards gained after the catch last season, ranking 17th in the country.

He confirmed his commitment on social media shortly after news broke. Athletic Director Pat Kraft had previously addressed the need for additional talent at the receiver position, stating bluntly, “We need a wide receiver,” in February.

Pena joins a growing list of transfer receivers at Penn State, which includes Kyron Hudson from USC and Devonte Ross from Troy. He will be a redshirt senior in 2025. Receivers coach said earlier this spring, “We could always use help. The objective is always to be the best in the country at every position.”

Prior to his breakout season at Syracuse, Pena struggled to find consistent playing time, only managing 271 yards across his first four college football seasons. He also showcased versatility by contributing as a kick and punt returner.

The influx of talented receivers comes at a vital time for the Nittany Lions, who have been under scrutiny for their passing game. Last season, the team’s tight end outperformed all receivers combined in receptions, highlighting an urgent need for improvement in that area.

Pena’s commitment signals a positive direction as Penn State aims to enhance its offensive capabilities ahead of the upcoming season.
