Penn State’s Harrison Wallace III Credits Family for Football Success
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — As Penn State prepares to face Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinals, wide receiver Harrison Wallace III is drawing attention not just for his on-field performance, but for the unwavering support of his family that has fueled his journey. Wallace, a standout player for the Nittany Lions, credits his parents, Harrison Wallace Sr. and Kendra Wallace, for being the backbone of his success.
Wallace’s father, Harrison Wallace Sr., serves as the Communicable Disease Bureau Director in Montgomery, Alabama, while his mother, Kendra, has maintained a low profile, focusing on supporting her son’s dreams. The couple has traveled over 13 hours from Montgomery to State College for every home game and attended every away game, demonstrating their commitment to their son’s career. “My family’s my ‘why,’” Wallace said. “They push me every day to be the best player I can be.”
The Penn State wideout’s journey began at Pike Road High School in Alabama, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball under the guidance of Coach Patrick Browning. Now, under head coach James Franklin, Wallace has become a key player for the Nittany Lions. This season, he has made significant strides, including a standout performance in a 38-10 victory over the Mustangs, where he recorded four catches for 48 yards.
Wallace’s path to success hasn’t been without challenges. After redshirting in 2021, he made a strong comeback in 2022 with 19 catches, 273 yards, and a touchdown. This season, he has taken his game to the next level, showcasing his dedication and the impact of his family’s support. “It was not easy, believe me,” Kendra Wallace recalled about her son leaving home for college. “I said, ‘Can you just call me and let me hear your voice every morning?’”
As Penn State gears up for the playoff semifinals, Wallace’s story highlights the importance of family in achieving athletic success. With his parents in the stands and his teammates by his side, Wallace is ready to make his mark on the national stage. “They know my potential, and they just push me to reach that,” he said.
