Penn State’s Nick Singleton Faces NFL Decision After Orange Bowl
Penn State running back Nick Singleton, a standout player for the Nittany Lions, is at a career crossroads as he prepares for the Orange Bowl against Notre Dame on January 9th. The game could mark his final appearance in a Penn State uniform as he weighs the decision to enter the NFL Draft or return for his senior season.
Singleton, a five-star recruit from Shillington, Pennsylvania, has been a key player for Penn State since his arrival. Over three seasons, he has rushed for 2,828 yards and 29 touchdowns, while also contributing 735 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. His partnership with fellow running back Kaytron Allen has been instrumental in Penn State’s success, with the duo combining for over 1,000 yards in multiple games this season.
Head coach James Franklin has praised Singleton’s character and contributions both on and off the field. “He’s a man of few words, but he’s a substance guy,” Franklin said. “To me, that’s what Penn State is about. He’s maximized his career here.” Franklin also highlighted the strong family support Singleton has received, recalling a memorable home visit where Singleton’s mother served oxtail, a meal that left a lasting impression on the coaching staff.
Singleton’s loyalty to Penn State has been a defining trait. Despite offers from other programs, he chose to stay with the Nittany Lions, a decision his father, Timmy Singleton, attributes to family values and a commitment to loyalty. “There was money put out there, but Nicholas was never going to leave,” Timmy Singleton said. “It was more important to stay at Penn State with his teammates and coaches.”
As the Orange Bowl approaches, Singleton’s future remains uncertain. Franklin acknowledged the possibility of Singleton entering the NFL Draft but expressed hope that he would return for another season. “If it was just about Penn State and being greedy, I’d love him back,” Franklin said. “But I ultimately want him to do what’s best for him.”
The Orange Bowl, set for 7:30 p.m. EST on January 9th, will be a pivotal moment for Singleton and Penn State. A victory could propel the Nittany Lions into contention for a national championship, while also serving as a potential showcase for Singleton’s NFL aspirations.
