Dartmouth College Soccer Game

HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth College faced off against the University of Pennsylvania in men’s soccer on Saturday, hoping to claim their third consecutive win in Ivy League play. However, the Quakers scored two goals in the second half, sealing a 2-0 victory at Burnham Field.

The match began with both teams showing strong defenses, resulting in a goalless first half. Penn managed more shots, taking five compared to Dartmouth’s four, but both teams struggled to convert their chances. Dartmouth goalkeeper Konstantinos Dellas made several crucial saves, keeping the game even as he faced three shots on goal.

The tide changed in the second half, when Penn found the net first in the 68th minute. Senior midfielder Patrick Cayelli scored, marking his eighth goal of the season, and just four minutes later, sophomore Marco Bottene scored again, giving the Quakers a 2-0 lead.

“I thought we competed in the first half,” said Dartmouth head coach Bo Oshoniyi. “We talk about something called competitive stamina. Penn had that for 90 minutes, and we left them in the game by not capitalizing on our chances.”

Dartmouth had opportunities to score throughout the match, with midfielder Olly Spicer coming close on two occasions. Despite the loss, forward James Wilson noted that the team fought hard. “It was an ugly game in the first half, but we knew it was just going to be a dogfight,” he said.

The defeat moves Dartmouth to 3-6-3 overall and drops them to fourth in the Ivy League standings. The Big Green will look to rebound against league leaders Princeton University in their next match on November 1.

“We have to be able to know how to face adversity,” Wilson added, as the team prepares for a challenging matchup against the nation’s top-ranked team.
