The Penrith Panthers have made a significant decision to release their controversial centre, Taylan May, amidst an ongoing legal battle. May, who had been charged with assault and stalking allegations, is now free to explore opportunities with other NRL clubs following a mutual agreement with his former team.

May is currently subjected to the NRL’s no-fault stand-down policy until at least March 2025 due to his legal situation. He has strongly denied all charges brought against him, emphasizing his innocence throughout the process. The 22-year-old’s departure from the Panthers comes after a series of off-field incidents that have clouded his career.

Previously found guilty of assaulting a man during the team’s grand-final celebrations in Queensland, May’s conduct off the field has drawn scrutiny. Despite no conviction being recorded in that case, his involvement in additional controversial situations has raised concerns within the NRL community.

Reports indicate that May had recently threatened legal action against the Penrith Panthers for attempting to terminate his contract amid the ongoing legal battle. The club had sought to part ways with the Samoa international, leading to a heated dispute and eventual agreement on a contract termination.

In a statement released by the Penrith Panthers, they confirmed May’s departure, stating, ‘Taylan May is departing the Penrith Panthers effective immediately and is seeking other opportunities.’ The club refrained from further elaborating on the matter, highlighting the sensitivity and privacy surrounding the departure.
