Peru Bolivia World Cup Qualifier March 2025

Lima, Peru – The Peruvian national football team is set to face Bolivia on March 20, 2025, in a crucial matchup for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. With hopes of clinching the seventh spot for a possible playoff, the team is looking to secure three vital points at the Estadio Nacional.

Under interim coach Óscar Ibáñez, the team has undergone significant changes in preparation for this high-stakes encounter. Ibáñez has opted for a 4-3-3 formation, shifting away from the previous 3-5-2 setup, to leverage the players’ strengths and enhance their performance. This tactical shift aims to boost players’ morale, who previously felt restricted under the old strategy.

In the last training session, Ibáñez revealed a starting eleven that included Pedro Gallese in goal; a defensive line of Luis Advíncula, Renzo Garcés, Luis Abram, and Miguel Trauco; with Renato Tapia anchoring the midfield alongside André Carrillo and Sergio Peña. Upfront, the attack features Andy Polo and Bryan Reyna supporting veteran Paolo Guerrero.

Gallese, who has previously led the team as captain, has emphasized the importance of this match for the squad. “We know how crucial this game is for our World Cup aspirations,” he stated. “We’re all focused on earning the three points.”

Trauco’s inclusion in the starting eleven underscores his recent strong performances with Alianza Lima and his experience, having participated in over 70 matches with the national team. His solid displays in the Copa Libertadores have made him a key figure in the lineup.

The match against Bolivia is critical as Peru looks to improve its standings, currently trailing in the qualification race. Players have recognized the need for a flawless performance against a strong opponent. “We have to deliver our best on the pitch to keep our dreams alive for the World Cup,” said Tapia, a central midfielder whose role is vital for controlling the game.

Ibáñez, noting the blend of youth and experience, has highlighted the importance of having seasoned players like Guerrero, aiming to foster confidence within the squad. “Experience in these situations is invaluable,” he remarked. “We are relying on players who have been through this before.”

Peru’s fixture against Bolivia kicks off at 8:30 PM local time, with the match officiated by Argentine referee Yael Falcón Pérez. The contest is anticipated for its competitive edge and the passionate support from local fans who will fill the stadium, as the team strives to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
