HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders announced the hiring of Pete Carroll as their new head coach on Jan. 25, 2025, marking a significant shift for the franchise. Carroll, a seasoned NFL veteran with 31 years of experience, joins the Raiders after a highly successful 14-year tenure with the Seattle Seahawks.

During his time in Seattle, Carroll led the Seahawks to 10 playoff appearances, two NFC Championships, and a Super Bowl XLVIII victory in 2014. His teams consistently ranked among the league’s best defenses, leading the NFL in scoring defense for four consecutive seasons from 2012 to 2015. Carroll also guided the Seahawks to eight seasons with 10 or more wins and five NFC West Division titles.

Carroll’s coaching career extends beyond the NFL. He spent nine years as head coach at the University of Southern California (USC), where he won two national championships (2003, 2004) and seven consecutive Pac-10 titles. Under his leadership, USC produced three Heisman Trophy winners and 53 NFL draft picks, including 14 first-round selections.

Raiders owner Mark Davis expressed confidence in Carroll’s ability to revitalize the franchise. “Pete’s track record speaks for itself,” Davis said. “His leadership, experience, and winning mentality are exactly what we need to take this team to the next level.”

Carroll’s return to the NFL sidelines comes after a brief hiatus following his departure from the Seahawks. His hiring coincides with the Raiders’ efforts to rebuild under new leadership, including minority owner Tom Brady, who has been actively involved in team decisions.

Carroll’s coaching philosophy, centered on competition and positivity, has earned him widespread respect across the league. “I’m excited to bring my energy and vision to the Raiders,” Carroll said during his introductory press conference. “This is a storied franchise with incredible potential, and I can’t wait to get to work.”

The Raiders finished the 2024 season with a 7-10 record, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year. With Carroll at the helm, the team aims to address key roster needs, including quarterback, as they prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
