Peter Schrager Leaves NFL Network, Set for New Journey

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Peter Schrager confirmed on Monday that he is leaving the NFL Network and Fox Sports after nearly nine years as a prominent host of ‘Good Morning Football.’ Appearing on the March 31 broadcast, Schrager shared his bittersweet news with viewers, generating intrigue about his next chapter.
“The rumors are true, today is my last day on ‘Good Morning Football,'” Schrager said, visibly emotional. “I end with great feelings. We’re going to celebrate today. I love everyone on this show. It’s all good, but this will be the last episode I will be on this program and with a heavy heart, I’m stepping away, but it’s also for good reasons and a bright future.”
Reports have indicated that Schrager may be heading to ESPN, where discussions include potential roles on programs such as ‘NFL Live,’ ‘First Take,’ and ‘Get Up.’ Ian Rapoport also mentioned that Schrager has agreed to terms with a rival network, though he refrained from confirming it as ESPN. “Peter Schrager has now agreed to terms with someone else,” Rapoport stated, adding a lighthearted jab at the competition.
Kyle Brandt, Schrager’s co-host since the show’s inception in 2016, expressed his feelings with humor and sincerity during the farewell. “You leaving the show, that’s a pretty big deal. I’m gonna have to adjust to that,” Brandt remarked, reflecting on their bond. He explained how he values their friendship, saying, “Thank you for eight and a half years for being my best bud.”
In a heartfelt segment, Schrager shared memories with former co-hosts and highlighted the camaraderie that developed over the years. “Hopefully we’ll all still be crossing paths and we can talk about ball elsewhere and it’ll be fine,” he added, showing optimism for the future. The segment was underscored by emotional tributes, including remarks from Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams.
Throughout his tenure, Schrager built a reputation for his insightful analysis and engaging style, both on ‘Good Morning Football’ and during his appearances on Fox’s pregame shows. He also hosts ‘The Season with Peter Schrager,’ part of the NFL Podcast Network, where his passion for football continues to resonate with listeners.
Schrager’s departure marks a significant shift for the show, leaving Brandt as the only original host remaining. Following the announcement, fans and colleagues alike reflected on his impact and contributions over the years. ‘Good Morning Football’ fans are now left wondering what Schrager’s next move will entail, as speculation grows around his potential partnership with ESPN.
As the NFL gears up for the 2025 season, Schrager’s next steps will be closely monitored by fans and insiders. If a deal with ESPN is finalized soon, he might even contribute to the network’s coverage of the upcoming NFL Draft, scheduled for April 24-26.
