Peyton Hendershot, the 25-year-old tight end, has been promoted to the Kansas City Chiefs‘ active roster from the practice squad ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This move comes in response to the team’s ongoing injury issues, particularly at the tight end position.

Hendershot’s activation is a result of the injuries to other tight ends on the team. Jared Wiley, a fourth-round pick, is on the injured reserve list after suffering a torn ACL in practice, and Jody Fortson is also on IR with ACL and meniscus injuries. To fill the gap, Hendershot was signed to the active roster, while Anthony Firkser took his spot on the practice squad.

In the Chiefs’ Week 9 game against the Buccaneers, Hendershot saw limited action, with only one snap out of 37 plays in the first half, compared to Travis Kelce‘s 31 snaps and Noah Gray‘s 22 snaps.

Hendershot, who stands at 6’4″ and weighs 246 pounds, was originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2022. He has now accrued two seasons in the NFL and is set to become a restricted free agent in 2025.

The Chiefs are dealing with several key injuries, including those to wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, defensive end Mike Danna, and cornerback Nazeeh Johnson, all of whom are inactive for the Week 9 game. The team has also promoted wideout Justyn Ross and cornerback Nic Jones from the practice squad to bolster their depth chart).
