PGA Tour Returns to Torrey Pines for Suspenseful Genesis Invitational

LA JOLLA, California — The PGA Tour has set the stage for an exciting weekend at the 2025 Genesis Invitational, taking place from February 13-16 at the renowned Torrey Pines South Course. The tournament was relocated from its traditional venue at the Riviera Country Club due to devastating wildfires in Los Angeles that impacted the area in January.
Despite the absence of Tiger Woods, who withdrew from the tournament after initially committing, many top stars are set to compete. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is back in action as he looks to improve from his previous outings, having struggled with his short game at the start of the season. “I’m hopeful I can turn things around here at Torrey Pines,” Scheffler stated. He has gained momentum following finishes in the top 10 at Pebble Beach and the WM Phoenix Open.
Joining Scheffler is Rory McIlroy, the Pebble Beach Pro-Am champion, who returns refreshed after taking a week off. “Patience is key at courses like this, and I feel ready to tackle the challenges Torrey presents,” McIlroy said. Also in contention is Hideki Matsuyama, who aims for his second victory of the season.
As participants set off for the first round, Denny McCarthy led with an impressive score of 4-under 68 despite challenging weather conditions. Following closely behind were Seamus Power and Patrick Rodgers, both just one stroke behind. Scheffler and Wyndham Clark are positioned to make a mark as they enter the second round just two strokes back.
Fans can catch the action with live coverage starting Thursday through *CBS* and *Golf Channel*. The purse for this year’s Genesis Invitational is set at $20 million, with a remarkable $4 million awarded to the winner.
