Phil Jones Retires, Aims for Coaching Career
Phil Jones has announced that he has officially retired from professional football. The former Manchester United and England centre-back expressed his desire to pursue a coaching career following his retirement.
The 32-year-old started coaching last September, getting involved with Manchester United’s under-14 and under-18 teams. He worked under lead coach Adam Lawrence, gaining valuable experience in the youth setup.
During his career, Jones made 229 appearances for Manchester United, a journey that was unfortunately plagued by injuries. He was part of the team that clinched the Premier League title in the 2012-13 season, which was also Sir Alex Ferguson‘s last season as manager.
Jones shared his thoughts on his career ending sooner than he would have wanted, saying he felt disappointed but remains optimistic. He has completed his A coaching license and is eager to take on a coaching challenge in the near future.
He mentioned to BBC Radio 5 Live that he left no stone unturned in his career. Jones made a total of 27 appearances for England and played in major tournaments like the World Cup.
Not one to dwell on the past, Jones is excited about the future and has committed to furthering his coaching education. He has enrolled in a PFA global football sport directorship course and is continuously working on his coaching badges.
