Jared Mccain Fall Philadelphia 76ers

Jared McCain, a rookie for the Philadelphia 76ers, was released from the hospital on Thursday morning following a concerning fall during a preseason game on Wednesday. The incident, which took place during the 76ers’ 117-95 victory at Wells Fargo Center, led to his hospitalization for a concussion evaluation and other injuries, according to the team.

The 20-year-old McCain, selected as the 16th pick in the June NBA draft, had scored 9 points with 7 rebounds over 23 minutes before the fall. During the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, McCain attempted to drive to the basket and collided with a Brooklyn Nets defender, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head and back hard on the court surface. Witnesses noted he had difficulty breathing while down for several minutes before he was assisted off the floor.

“It was rough,” 76ers coach Nick Nurse commented post-game. “He’s going to the hospital to get checked out. Obviously, he was having trouble breathing there, maybe got the wind knocked out of him. I’ve never quite seen one like that before, so let’s hope he’s okay and see what the report is from the hospital.”

McCain’s diagnosis includes pulmonary contusions, or bruising in the lungs, but there is optimism he avoided a serious injury. He is scheduled for a re-evaluation for a concussion later on Thursday. The Philadelphia medical staff continues to monitor his condition closely.

Philadelphia forward Kelly Oubre Jr. provided further reassurance about McCain’s condition. “It was very scary. He caught himself, luckily,” Oubre shared with reporters. “He didn’t fall flat on his back. … He just has to kind of take it easy. Make sure he’s 100% for opening night.”
