Phillies Aim to Rebound Against Giants in Four-Game Series

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — The Philadelphia Phillies (9-6) will face the San Francisco Giants (11-4) at Citizens Bank Park in a highly anticipated MLB matchup on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 6:45 p.m. ET. After suffering a shutout loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Phillies are looking to regain their momentum against a Giants team that has been performing exceptionally well this season.
Last week, the Phillies fell 7-0 to St. Louis, with ace Zack Wheeler absorbing the loss after allowing four earned runs over six innings. Philadelphia’s offense struggled, with J.T. Realmuto managing to secure the only hit in a lackluster performance.
In contrast, the San Francisco Giants enter this series riding high after a thrilling 5-4 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday. Rookie outfielder Jung Hoo Lee excelled, going 2-for-3, driving in four runs, and hitting two home runs. Pitcher Logan Webb improved to a 2-0 record, despite a modest outing involving three runs across five innings.
“We’re starting a critical series on the road, and we need to continue building on our recent successes,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said. “Our guys are making strong contributions, whether it’s on the mound or at the plate.”
The matchup features Philadelphia’s Taijuan Walker on the mound, who has yet to allow an earned run in his first two starts of the season. He has a commendable 1.125 WHIP and nine strikeouts across 10.2 innings. Meanwhile, San Francisco will send Landen Roupp to the mound. Roupp has a 3.60 ERA and is currently seeking his first win this season after starting off with a 0-1 record.
The Phillies have struggled recently, going just 3-6 over their last nine games after starting strong. They hold a respectable 5-1 record at home and typically perform well when averaging five or more runs.
“It’s critical for us to break out of this slump, especially at home,” said Kyle Schwarber, who leads the Phillies with six home runs and 12 RBI. “We have the talent to turn this around, and we’re eager to show our fans what we’re capable of.”
On the Giants’ side, Wilmer Flores has established himself as a powerful hitter, boasting an MLB-best six home runs and 19 RBI this season. Jung Hoo Lee’s impressive performance has also positioned him among the league leaders, hitting .352 with an OPS of 1.130.
As the teams prepare for their first encounter of the season, Philadelphia is considered a slight favorite with odds showing the Phillies at -113 and the Giants at -106. With an over/under set at 9 runs, the matchup promises to be an exciting start to this four-game series.
Looking beyond just this game, the Phillies will follow up with a Tuesday matchup against Giants’ Jesús Luzardo and a Wednesday game featuring Aaron Nola for Philadelphia. The Giants look to solidify their standing as one of the top teams in the National League juxtaposed with the Phillies seeking recovery.
This series not only holds stakes for both teams regarding their playoff aspirations but also presents players on both rosters an opportunity to showcase their skills as they head deeper into the 2025 season.
