Phillies Extend Win Streak Behind Kepler and Marsh’s Strong Offense

Miami, FL – The Philadelphia Phillies secured a 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday night, extending their win streak to five games. Max Kepler hit a go-ahead solo home run in the fourth inning, marking his sixth consecutive game with a hit.
Brandon Marsh also contributed significantly, extending his own hitting streak to seven games. He tripled in the seventh inning, scoring on a Trea Turner RBI single. Marsh’s recent performance has been strong, as he’s batting 10-for-20 with three extra-base hits this week.
The Phillies, now 42-29, have managed to cut their deficit in the National League East from 5½ games to just two behind the New York Mets. This weekend, they face the Mets at Citizens Bank Park for three games, a crucial opportunity to gain more ground.
Turner, who set the tone with a leadoff homer, continues to lead the National League with 88 hits, outpacing stars like Manny Machado and Shohei Ohtani. “The at-bats by everyone were really good,” Turner said, praising the team’s offensive effort.
Mick Abel, the Phillies’ starting pitcher, earned his second win of the season, allowing only one run in five innings. Abel’s only challenging inning came in the second when he allowed a single that scored the Marlins’ only run.
Managing five innings and 77 pitches, Abel will start again on four days’ rest, a schedule adjustment for the rookie. The Phillies are expected to lean on him heavily this summer, especially with Aaron Nola out.
With Taijuan Walker and Matt Strahm helping to finish the game, Orion Kerkering earned his first major league save, becoming the seventh different Phillie to do so this season.
The Phillies aim to extend their win streak to six on Tuesday with Jesus Luzardo on the mound, following his impressive 10-strikeout performance last outing.
