Phillies Vs Cubs Baseball Game At Wrigley Field

CHICAGO, Illinois — The Philadelphia Phillies ended a five-game losing streak with a 10-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Jesús Luzardo pitched six solid innings, allowing two unearned runs and three hits, earning his first win since April 4.

Luzardo’s performance was crucial, as he has now allowed two runs or fewer in five of his first six starts. Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber each contributed two RBIs for the Phillies, who had managed just 13 runs during their losing streak.

The game took a turn in the fourth inning when Philadelphia scored six runs against Cubs starter Justin Brown, who was pitching well until then. The offensive onslaught began when No. 9 hitter Jake Cave reached on a hit-by-pitch, leading to an avalanche of hits.

“We knew we needed this win and the team stepped up,” Harper said after the game. “Our offense clicked at the right time.”

Kepler and Harper both had RBI singles in the fateful inning, as did Bryson Stott, who also added a two-run double that capped the offensive explosion, marking a pivotal moment for the Phillies.

The Cubs, who had won three straight games before this loss, left 10 runners on base and were unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities. Brown had initially struck out five batters in the first three innings, but fell apart in the fourth.

“We need better performances from him,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said. “He’s capable of going deeper into games.”

Despite the setback, the Cubs had a bright spot in Patrick Wisdom, who recorded two hits and three RBIs. The victory improved the Phillies’ record to 11-12 in April, a stark contrast to their 19-9 record during the same month last season.

Both teams will face off again on Sunday with the series finale, as Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola looks for his first win against Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman.
