Phoenix Suns Front Office News

PHOENIX, Arizona — The Phoenix Suns are poised to announce significant front office decisions by early next week, with potential announcements expected even sooner, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.

The announcements will pave the way for a search for a new head coach following the dismissal of Mike Budenholzer. Gambadoro indicated that the Suns could reveal their front office changes within the next 48 hours.

“I would expect the Suns front office changes to be announced in the next 48 hours, or at the latest – early next week. At that time, the coaching search will begin,” Gambadoro tweeted.

As speculation surrounding Phoenix’s plans grows, NBA insider Brian Gregory’s name has emerged as a candidate for a more elevated role in the organization. Stein reported, “I’m told an emerging option in Phoenix, rather than a splashy outside hire, is promoting VP of player programming Brian Gregory to a more prominent front office role.”

Gregory joined the Suns’ front office last offseason after serving as the head coach at South Florida from 2017 to 2023. He was previously an assistant coach at Michigan State under Tom Izzo from 1999 to 2003, where he coached Suns owner Mat Ishbia.

The team struggled this past season, finishing with a 36-46 record and missing the play-in tournament. Ishbia described the outcome as a failure and indicated that it would result in changes. “As the owner, my job is to make those changes and do things differently,” he said. “What we tried over the last 2.5 years has not been as successful as we hoped.”

The future of Suns president of basketball operations and general manager James Jones remains uncertain, as his contract reportedly expires in June.
