Phoenix Suns Part Ways with Coach Frank Vogel After Disappointing Season
The Phoenix Suns have decided to part ways with head coach Frank Vogel after a lackluster season that fell short of expectations. Vogel, who only spent one season with the Suns, was let go less than two weeks after the team was eliminated from the NBA playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Following a review of the season, Suns’ general manager James Jones announced the decision, stating that the team needed a new direction with its coaching staff. The Suns had high hopes when Vogel was brought in to lead the star-studded lineup consisting of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, but the team failed to meet the desired level of success.
Beal’s early-season injury, turnovers, and a thin bench all contributed to the Suns’ struggles throughout the year. Despite Vogel expressing confidence in his position before the playoffs, the Suns ultimately decided to make a change in leadership.
Team owner Mat Ishbia has been known for making bold moves since taking over the franchise, including acquiring Durant and Beal in major trades. With Vogel’s departure, the Suns will now be on the lookout for their third head coach in as many seasons as they aim to reset and refocus on their championship aspirations.
Reports suggest that the Suns are eyeing former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer as a potential replacement for Vogel. Budenholzer, a two-time Coach of the Year winner, has an impressive track record in the league and could bring valuable experience to the Suns’ coaching staff. Budenholzer has also been linked to coaching vacancies with other NBA teams like the Los Angeles Clippers.
