Pioneers Golf Team Secures Second Place at SHU Invitational

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University women’s golf team finished in second place at the SHU Spring Break Invite on Thursday, held at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club. The team posted a combined score of 642 (+66), six strokes behind first-place Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival.

Competing in the 36-hole event, the Pioneers recorded scores of 317 and 325 across the two rounds. Jessie Burch and Maya Robilio were standout players, leading the team with scores of 158 (+14) and 160 (+16), respectively.

Burch’s performance included three birdies, contributing significantly to her solid rounds. She remarked, “I felt great out there. My putting was on point, and I made the most of my opportunities.” Burch finished the invitational tied for first in individual standings after the first round.

The Pioneers trailed the leaders, who also participated in the MAAC, showcasing competitive prowess among the conference teams. Ashland finished third with a team score of +32, while Fairfield and Holy Cross followed closely behind with scores of +40 and +45, respectively.

Head Coach of the Pioneers expressed pride in the team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and strategy in the upcoming rounds. “We have a strong group of golfers who can perform under pressure, and I believe we can close the gap in the remaining rounds,” said the coach.

The tournament not only serves as a valuable competitive experience for the Pioneers but also as a pivotal moment to gather momentum ahead of their upcoming conference matches. The Pioneers will aim to build on their current standing as they prepare for future challenges in the season.
