Pistons’ Jaden Ivey Makes Progress in Recovery from Injury

Detroit, MI — Jaden Ivey, the Detroit Pistons shooting guard, is making strides in his recovery from a broken left fibula sustained on January 1. The team announced on April 26 that Ivey is engaged in gradual basketball shooting, skill work, and strength conditioning. A follow-up update on his status is expected in two weeks.
Ivey suffered his injury during a game against the Orlando Magic when he collided with guard Cole Anthony while pursuing a loose ball. At the time of his injury, Ivey was enjoying his best season in the NBA, averaging 17.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game over 30 appearances.
The 23-year-old’s shooting efficiency has improved dramatically this season, with 46% field goal shooting and 40.9% accuracy from three-point range. His performance earlier in the season helped him solidify his role as a full-time starter under new head coach J.B. Bickerstaff.
Currently, the Pistons trail their first-round playoff series against the New York Knicks 2-1, making Ivey’s potential return crucial for the team’s postseason hopes. While he has been cleared for basketball activities, it appears likely that he will miss the entire first round of the playoffs. The franchise has emphasized the importance of caution in bringing Ivey back.
“Pistons guard Jaden Ivey continues to recover from a broken left fibula,” the team stated. They noted Ivey will be re-evaluated after two weeks to assess his readiness for future competition. However, without a deep postseason run, his return may be unlikely.
Ivey, who was the fifth pick in the 2022 draft, has been pivotal for the young Pistons team, which has made a significant turnaround this season with a record of 44-38 after winning just 14 games last year. Fans remain hopeful that a return to play could occur later in the playoffs, depending on the team’s performance.
