Pistons Seek Franchise Record Against Celtics Wednesday Night
Boston, MA — The Detroit Pistons will aim for a franchise record Wednesday night as they visit the Boston Celtics for an NBA Cup matchup at TD Garden. With a current winning streak of 13 games, a victory would give Detroit its 14th straight win.
The Pistons extended their streak with a close 122-117 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Monday. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff emphasized the team’s focus on the upcoming challenge, saying, “I don’t want to be dismissive, but our focus has to be on Wednesday, practice and film (Tuesday).”
In a blow to the Celtics, starting center Neemias Queta is sidelined with a left ankle sprain sustained during Sunday’s game against the Orlando Magic. His absence may lead to increased playing time for Luka Garza.
The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN. The Pistons are favored by 2.5 points, with the over/under set at 231.0.
Detroit, boasting a season record of 15-2, has shown impressive performance recently, winning all of its last 10 games. The Celtics, currently with a record of 9-8, are also on a positive trajectory, having won four of their last five games.
Statistically, the Pistons rank higher in several categories, averaging 119.6 points per game, compared to the Celtics’ 114.6. Both teams exhibit solid defensive records, with Boston allowing an average of 110 points and Detroit 112.6.
This matchup will mark the second meeting between the two teams this season. They first faced off on October 26, with the Pistons claiming victory 119-112. Pistons’ star Cade Cunningham led the team with 25 points during that contest, while Jaylen Brown recorded an impressive 41 points for Boston.
As the Pistons chase history, a win will not only set their franchise record for consecutive victories, but it will also bolster their position in the NBA Cup standings, keeping them competitive in East Group B.
“A win this evening will put the 2025-2026 Detroit Pistons all alone on the franchise-record winning streak list,” Bickerstaff stated.
