Pittsburgh Native Neal Shipley to Tee Off With Tiger Woods in Masters Pairing
Pittsburgh native and Central Catholic alumni, Neal Shipley, is set for a legendary pairing at the Masters as he tees off alongside golf icon Tiger Woods.
Shipley, the sole amateur to make the cut, will commence his Sunday round at 9:35 a.m., currently tied for 52nd place in the tournament.
The journey for Shipley, a 2019 graduate of Central Catholic, began with his qualification for the Masters after finishing as a runner-up at the 2023 U.S. Amateur Championship last summer.
For his caddie at the prestigious event, Shipley called on long-time friend Carter Pitcairn, surprising him over Thanksgiving break with the invitation to join him at The Masters.
Shipley made a strong debut in the tournament on Thursday with a one-under-par 71, securing his spot after the cut was set at six-over-par.
However, as the weekend progressed, Shipley faced challenges, posting scores of four-over-par on Friday and eight-over-par on Saturday.
Despite these setbacks, the amateur golfer has shown skill with seven birdies, 31 pars, and 14 bogeys so far in the tournament.
As Shipley and Woods head into Sunday’s round, both start the day with an 11-over-par score, setting the stage for an intriguing pairing.
Woods, a five-time Masters champion, boasts an impressive record while Shipley aims to continue making waves in the golfing world.
